I love short black dresses and I think that both Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri have done a great job with the Valentino Fall 09 couture collection! The lacy dresses are especially beautiful.

Vogue UK blogs

When I was a teenager I used to save my allowance so that I could buy Vogue UK, since it was an import. As a teen of the 80s I was highly influenced by the street styles of London and Vogue UK became my sort of fashion bible. Had I been a teenager now I could’ve clicked on their new blog and saved some of my pennies.

Myley Cyrus in Elle

I’ve been hearing a lot about the latest issue of Elle that features Miley Cyrus. Some argue that her photographs inside the magazine are too sexy. While I am the farthest thing away from being a fan of hers, I don’t understand what the difference is between her photos and those of 16 year-old models that are sometimes featured in major magazines. Frankly, what I’d like to see in all fashion magazines is the return of models, such as those from the 80s/90s, gracing the covers rather than actresses and/or singers.

The Beckham’s in their Armani’s.

I think both Victoria and David Beckham look great in this new ad for Armani underwear, but obviously the one I can’t stop looking at is David. He’s stunning.

Michelle Obama vs. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

This week as world leaders met in London for the G20 summit, and as protesters took to the streets in that capital city, nothing seemed to garner more attention that Michelle Obama and the clothes she wore. No other meeting seemed to be expected with more bated anticipation than that between her and Carla Bruni, the Italian singer, model and wife of French President, Nicolas Sarkozy. While both women are fashionistas, and women whose style I admire, I have to say that in their first meeting, I preferred Carla’s coat (see image above). It may be my bias against bright patterns, but I also think Michelle looks a bit matronly and not as stylish as I have become accustomed to seeing her .

Here’s another picture from that same meeting, sans coats.

Once again, in this image I prefer Carla’s dress. While I like the classic cut of Michelle’s dress, I like the chicness of Carla’s.

Valentino The Last Emperor

Valentino The Last Emperor, takes a behind the scenes look at the man behind the clothes as well as to the relationship between him and his long-time partner Giancarlo Giammetti.

I’d originally read about this film being made in Vogue, and late last week I saw an interview with Valentino, Giancarlo Giammetti and Matt Tyrnauer, the filmmaker, on Charlie Rose that made me even more eager to see it once it’s released. Read the interview with Tyrnauer, where he talks about what it was like to film this fashion legend. The film opens in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas on April 3.

Giorgio Armani

The Giorgio Armani Fall 09 collection is lovely and sophisticated. The clothes, the bold red lips and accessories are perfect! There’s a bit of an 80s theme in most of the Fall 09 collections but with a refined touch that I am really liking. Take away the clothes, put them in black dresses and the models in the Giorgio Armani runway show look like the girls in the Robert Palmer videos of the 80s!
